IT111-LAB Exercise

6. Students are to compare solid-state storage to magnetic and optical storage media. They are to express an opinion indicating whether they think solid-state storage will replace the other types of storage.
ans: Solid-state storage is a nonvolatile, removable storage medium that employs integrated circuit rather than magnetic or optical media.

Magnetic storage devices store the data on a magnetically coated surface. They can generally be used many times. They tend to have a large storage capacity when compared to optical media.

Optical storage is a term from engineering referring to the storage of data on an optically readable medium. Data is recorded by making marks in a pattern that can be read back with the aid of light, usually a beam of laser light precisely focused on a spinning disc.
